Kunene Governor, Honorable Angelika Muharukua, in the presence of the Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Honorable Doreen Sioka receiving NWR’s donation from NWR's Managing Director, Mrs. Zelna Hengari.

Windhoek, 14 November 2016 – As the country rallies behind President Dr. Hage G. Geingob’s call in alleviating poverty, Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) saw the need to do its part in assisting the President’s war on poverty. On 10 November 2016 NWR’s Managing Director, Mrs. Zelna Hengari along with some of her team members, travelled to the town of Opuwo within the Kunene region in order to make a donation to the Governor, Honourable Angelika Muharukua.

At the same occasion, it was pleasant to note that the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare was also present and was delivering equipment to the community of Opuwo as part of its income generating activity initiative. This initiative aims to cultivate a culture of entrepreneurship among communities in order to create employment opportunities, as well as strengthen the earning capacity of community members.

It was during the handover ceremony of some food items, clothes, old linen and towels from some of the NWR resorts that the Honorable Governor, Angelika Muharukua commended NWR for its efforts. She was overjoyed due to the fact that this was not the first time NWR was making such a donation.

The Governor assured the community members that were present that the donation would be given to the councilors in order for them to ensure they each go to the deserving beneficiaries.

At the same occasion, the Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare Doreen Sioka, applauded Mrs. Hengari for her efforts in assisting the Government of Namibia. She encouraged all other female Chief Executive Officers and Managing Directors to emulate the example of Mrs. Hengari.

Mrs. Hengari thanked and assured the community that NWR was doing this in order to do its part as a responsible corporate citizen. “President Dr. Hage G. Geingob has been calling on business community members and individuals to all do their part in order to eradicate poverty within Namibia. It is for this reason that as a company, we saw the need to gather things we could contribute towards deserving communities within Namibia. We therefore encourage all other companies, whether big or small, to see what they can do in order to uplift the different communities within Namibia,” said Mrs. Hengari.
